Pittsburgh Bound Dooley Leads The Firebirds

Senior volleyball wonder Meagan Dooley has just recently verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh. Dooley will be accepting a full athletic volleyball scholarship from the Panthers.

?It?s really exciting for me,? Dooley said. ?All the work I?ve done has finally paid off. I?m really looking forward to the competition, traveling, and playing really great teams.? Dooley is currently playing her fourth year on the varsity squad. On the court Dooley has made All Greater Miami Conference Second Team as a freshman and First Team as a sophomore and junior. The 6?2?? middle hitter is carrying the Firebirds this year leading the team with 69 kills through three games.

The Firebirds are currently 1-2 on the season, but despite the slow start they look to make a run in the state tournament this year. ?Winning the GMC this year would be awesome,? Dooley said. The past three years Dooley has been on teams that have finished 2nd-4th in the league standings. In her final season as a Firebird she looks to lead the team to a GMC championship.

?Meagan?s one of the best in all of Ohio,? coach Tracy Kornau said. ?She is a lot more mature than she used to be. During her freshman year she would get really flustered. She?s really grown as a player on the court. Meagan used to be just an offensive threat. Now she can play both sides of the ball really well.?

The University of Pittsburgh has a great history in women?s volleyball. The Panthers of Pittsburgh have won eleven Big East Conference titles in the history of the Big East volleyball. Coach Kornau talks of Dooley very highly when on the topic of Meagan playing at the college level. ?A lot of kids are good high school players, but struggle in college. She has all the tools to play on the college level,? Kornau said. ?She?s only going to get stronger. Meagan has a great frame to work with. Once she gets to a college weight lifting program the sky is the limit for her.?
